David Olsen spent part of his career learning how to defeat barriers. Years later, a break-in at his own home led him to approach the same problem from the other side of the door.
David joined SEAL Team One in 2001 and was later selected for breaching school. There he learned how doors, locks and other barriers fail, and how to defeat them. Steel doors, gates, cages, fences, windows, steel panels and ballistic materials were all part of the breacher's problem. If a barrier stopped the flow of an assault, it was the breacher's job to get through it.
After leaving the Teams, David came home one night to find his door kicked in and his home ransacked. The deadbolt had been forced through the wooden door frame, leaving the strike plate on the floor. It may have taken only one kick.
The thieves took very little of value, but what stayed with David wasn't what they stole. It was the thought of what might have happened if his family had been home.
David began looking at residential security from the breacher's perspective. Where are the weaknesses in a conventional door? How can those weaknesses be addressed without making a home feel like a fortress?
That thinking became the foundation for Garrison Door.
